| 値 | The first moving picture in Nagasaki was screened using the cinématographe method. The date and time was May 21, 1897(Meiji 30), and the place was within the Yasaka Shrine. Though the play in showhouses(misemonogoya) had been accepted by people in Nagasaki, the number of theatrical showhouses screening movies gradually increased as movies became popular after that. The change of preferences of in the fields of entertainment and pastimes among the people in Nagasaki led to a steady shift towards the movies. This essay aims to clarify the process of movies becoming established in Nagasaki as people’s entertainment. |
