| 内容記述 | This paper discusses the following three points: (1) the outline of phraseology, (2) an introduction to phraseological studies in Japan and abroad, and (3) a proposal to introduce phraseological viewpoints to English education in Japan. Recently, much attention has been paid to phraseology because phrases play important roles in first and second language acquisition. Phraseology is regarded to have been established as an area of linguistics in the late 20th century, but actually, it has a long history. This paper explains its outline from the historical perspective in Japan and abroad and introduces some phraseological studies which adopt top-down and bottom-up approaches. Lastly, I will examine how effective it is to teach phrases to college students by means of teaching materials. The materials for learning useful phrases used in class seem to have helped improve students English writing proficiency. I will show how students' writing proficiency improved in my writing class and I will try to show how phraseology can help improve English learners' proficiency. | |||||||
