In this study, I qualitatively analyzed an example of a “rakugo class” that seems to have succeeded in cultivating this attitude and explored the factors behind its success. The participants were given tasks involving both speaking their own words and practicing and presenting rakugo. They practiced repeatedly and devised ideas to complete the tasks, giving them a greater sense of accomplishment. The tasks were not easy, but learners were greatly assisted by peer participation, the excellent instructor, and the uniqueness of the rakugo teaching materials.
