Participants were 72 university students who were in either Japanese or English teacher training courses. The study identified high frequency words in students’ descriptions in open-ended questions using KH Coder and compared these descriptions with the ideal qualities of teachers in English or Japanese teaching training courses. The findings indicated that students in teacher training courses place emphasis on teachers’ attention to learners’ psychological factors in the descriptive contents of open-ended questions.
