By looking at the dissemination of Japanese popular cultures, this paper highlights multifaceted images of contemporary Japan in a globalized world. I begin this study by reviewing existing knowledge in relation to “Japanization,” addressing the characteristics of Japanese cultural products that have been spreading worldwide. I then foreground the crucial role of individuals as consumers in the process of production and consumption of cultural products.
