Since the Korean War truce of 1953, a military demarcation line (MDL) has been drawn between South Korea and North Korea. In the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) extending 2km to the north and south of the MDL possession of arms is prohibited, and the entry of civilians severely restricted.\nIn Korea, many observatories and tourist facilities can be found along the DMZ.
