In the original Greek version of the New Testament, the passage mentioned above uses the subject \"you\" in the singular form (\"συ\"). In The Colloquial Japanese Version however, the same passage uses the subject \"you\" in the plural form (\"Anatagata\"). As The Colloquial Japanese Version was supposed to be translated mainly from the English Version commonly known as the Revised Standard Version of the Bible, I believe this to be the root cause of the mistranslation. In other words, I think the mistranslation has to do with the differing uses of the subject \"you\" in Greek with that of English. In this article, I attempt to explain how and why such an elementary mistake took place.
