Viewed from phonetic and semantic perspectives, specific triggers for changing from -ed forms into Φ forms are as follows : (i) the expressions of \"-ed forms + noun\" must be idiomatic phrases; (ii) the indispensable presence for noun forms of -ed forms; (iii) the speaker does not give a semantically false impression when \"-ed forms + noun\" are converted into \"Φ forms + noun.\" Only when these three conditions are satisfied, speakers choose the shortest possible expressions on the condition that they do not mislead the addressees. I will explain this trait as the \"principle of least effort, \" which manifests itself as the principle of \"linguistic economy, \" as argued in Yagi・Inoue (to appear).
