In this article, the meaning and co-occurrence constraint of ekile-, daγus (qa) - and bara(γa) – was discussed, which are some of the many auxiliary verbs in Mongolian.
We mainly investigated the following five items. Firstly, ekile- does not co-occur with the state verb bayi-. Secondly, Mongolian auxiliary verbs usually appear in the V2 position in the V1+V2 construction, however ekilemay come to the V1 position. In this case, ekile- has the modal nuances, such as expectation and caution toward the beginning of the action. Thirdly, the difference between daγus(qa)- and bara(γa)- is considered to be a dialectal one. Then, bara-(daγus-) only shows that it reaches the end point, whereas baraγa-(daγusqa-) has a modal nuance attached to the process until the end. Finally, bara(γa)- has some restrictions on co-occurring verb phrases as well as ekile-.
