内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 In this paper, we will examine the role of NGOs in the reconstruction of society and culture, taken some cases of Cambodia for examples. In Cambodia, they had been suffering from war and conflict for a long time and their society and culture had been seriously damaged. After a peace treaty was concluded in 1991, the reconstruction processes had begun soon. When these processes were executed, many NGOs had engaged in them and had showed very important functions. Japanese NGOs such as Japan International Volunteer Center (JVC) and Leucaena Communication Japonesia (LCJ) have been participating in the promotion of the sustainable agriculture and the rural development in several Cambodian villages. Centre de Developpement Culturel et des Arts Populaires Khmers (CDCAPK) , the local NGO in Cambodia, has been supporting orphans who lost their parents in the war time and has been teaching the traditional shadow puppet play and music to them. Institute for Khmer Traditional Textiles (IKTT), managed by a former Japanese traditional textile artisan, Kikuo Morimoto, has been reproducing traditional Cambodian clothes, and at the same time has been trying to reconstruct Cambodian forests and rural environment that have been disappearing in these years. In sum, all of their activities have been oriented to the revival of Cambodian culture and society that had been spoiled for many years and they have achieved their purposes to a considerable extent, though much difficulty still remains before them. In conclusion, we propose that we can take a precious lesson from their experiences and utilize them for the realization of the better future of a global human society. Thus their contributions should be highly evaluated in this respect.
