In this paper the writer mainly discusses the political economy of uneven development in post-Mao China. This essay is intended to clarify (1) power struggle regarding reform and open door policy ; (2) dispute concerning uneven development ; (3) implication on proposing the development plan of inland area. As a result of the study, the following can be pointed out : (1) Uneven development does not seem to influence political integration in the near future ; (2) Some kinds of scholar criticizes decentralization in order to support conservatives ; (3) In spite of decentralization, vertical control of central government is still too tight to solve uneven development between coastal area and inland area.
