内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 From this article we will try to start some comparative studies of social development in Southeast Asia. Today, the term "social development" has come to gain a high reputation in the development industry and the field of international cooperation. Because of its high possibility and sustainability, participatory style of social development is becoming the mainstream method in the practice of development in the third world. But, instead of its value and effectiveness, systematic case study has rarely been done since when this method began to be well known in the world of development study. In this article, as a starting part of a series of comparative study that the present author is preparing, some cases of NGO's activities in the field of social development in Cambodia are to be examined. First, a case of SFODA (Sacrifice Families and Orphans Development Association), a local NGO in Cambodia, is taken as an example to show the problem of the scarcity of funds in a small NGO. Second, JVC (Japan International Volunteer Center) a Japanese NGO in Cambodia, is shown as a good case of sustainable rural development. Third, LCJ (Leucaena Communication Japonesia), also a Japanese NGO, is another good example in the field of sustainable rural development. Fourth, IKTT (Institute for Khmer Traditional Textiles), managed by a former Japanese traditional textile artisan, Kikuo Morimoto, is shown as a rare case of trial for reconstructing the traditional Cambodian textiles and rural environment at the same time. In all of their activities, we can see the effectiveness and the limitations of social development as well. We will present the outline of more general implications at the forthcoming article.
